Driving test nerves: what actually helps.
Feeling nervous before a test is normal — almost everyone knows that feeling. These five points help you go into the theory and practical test calmer.
1. Only test when you are truly ready
Most of the nerves often come from testing too early. We only suggest the test once we see you driving confidently — not just because a slot is free.
2. Really understand the theory
If you understand the learning app’s questions instead of just memorising them, you stay calmer in the test — even if a question is phrased differently than you are used to.
3. Drive the test route beforehand
Unfamiliar streets are a common source of stress. So during lessons, practise specifically in the area where you will later be tested — then less is new on test day.
4. Talk openly with your instructor
Tell your instructor if you are nervous. In the final lessons they can then practise exactly what worries you most, instead of just continuing as usual.
5. On test day: routine, not rushing
- Plan enough time so there is no time pressure.
- Eat something beforehand — it is harder to concentrate on an empty stomach.
- Remember: not every small mistake means you fail.
And if it doesn’t work out: that’s not the end of the world. We’ll figure out the next step with you right afterwards.
