Driving licence at 17: how accompanied driving (BF17) works
With BF17 you start practising earlier. The training is essentially the same as for class B. Until you turn 18 you drive with a suitable accompanying person.
What is BF17?
BF17 is the driving licence for teenagers from 17. You do the same training as for class B and may drive accompanied after passing the test.
At 18 the accompaniment ends. You do not need a new test for that. We will explain in person how the change to the regular car driving licence works.
How does the training work?
You complete the required special and rural-road drives as for class B and then practise in accompanied mode. By law the minimum is:
- Theory: 14 double lessons of 90 minutes each (12 basic + 2 for class B)
- Practice: 12 special drives of 45 minutes each — 5 on rural roads, 4 on the motorway, 3 at dusk/in the dark
- On top of that come practice lessons as needed — after your first drives we will tell you honestly how many
As of 2026, according to the German driving-student training regulation (FahrschAusbO), without guarantee.
Who can accompany you?
The accompanying person has to meet the legal requirements. We explain the details to you personally before you decide, so nothing goes wrong.
What does BF17 cost?
Registration, app and driving lessons cost the same as for class B:
- Registration: €349
- Learning app: €50
- Driving lesson: €65
- Exam presentation with us: €250
- First aid course: €50
You always pay the TÜV fees directly to the TÜV. Whether an authority, for example the job centre, covers costs is decided by that authority alone. We give no assurance about this.
