What does a driving licence cost in Mönchengladbach?
In short: it depends mostly on how many driving lessons you need. Here you see every item at Maryo’s Fahrschule, what the law requires and what you pay externally.
The fixed items
These costs are fixed, no matter how fast you learn:
- Registration: €349
- Learning app: €50
- Exam presentation with us: €250
- First aid course: €50 (required for registration, separate item)
Driving lessons: the item that varies
A driving lesson costs €65. How many you need is different for everyone. As guide values we use 18 lessons for very fast learning, 24 on average and 30 if you need more practice.
By law you need at least 12 special drives of 45 minutes: 5 on rural roads, 4 on the motorway and 3 at dusk or in the dark (As of 2026, according to the German driving-student training regulation (FahrschAusbO), without guarantee). After your first drives we will tell you honestly how many extra practice lessons you need.
Example calculation for class B
This is how our cost calculator works, without the first aid course and without TÜV fees:
- 18 driving lessons: €2,089
- 24 driving lessons: €2,479
- 30 driving lessons: €2,869
It includes registration (€349), learning app (€50), the driving lessons, the exam presentation (€250) and a reserve for practice drives & extra costs (€270).
What you pay externally
These items are not part of our prices:
- The TÜV fees for the theory and practical test (always paid directly to the TÜV)
- Eye test and biometric passport photo
- The fee for the application at the driving licence office
The current amounts are stated by the TÜV, the optician or photographer and the city itself. We deliberately do not quote figures here so that nothing gets outdated.
How to save without saving on safety
- Use the learning app early and regularly. If you know the theory well, you go into the test calmer.
- Drive regularly instead of taking long breaks. If you drive often, you usually need fewer lessons.
- Only go to the test when your instructor sees you are ready. Every retake costs extra.
